IQ Testing
Many private schools and gifted programs require formal intelligence testing for admission. IQ testing can be helpful in better understanding our cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Are you a more visual learner or do you prefer using language to express yourself?
Our process
-
1.
Complete paperwork at your own pace prior to your first appointment.
-
2.
Participate in a 2-hour testing session in our Glen Cove office. In some cases, this testing may be conducted virtually.
-
3.
Attend a virtual feedback meeting to learn about the findings of the report, determine next steps, and discuss placement recommendations.
-
4.
You'll receive a written report which contains evidence-based recommendations tailored to support you or your child's continued cognitive skill building. This report can be given to you or your child's school or professional community to access admission.

Coast Psychology offers IQ testing for children, teens, and adults. We are able to provide IQ testing as a standalone service. We also provide multi-dimensional evaluations of giftedness which include IQ testing. All comprehensive evaluations include IQ testing as well. If you suspect your child may have an intellectual impairment, your child's school may be able to provide IQ testing at no cost.

Most participants find testing tasks quite fun! These tasks are interactive, computer-based, and arranged in an order designed to be engaging. For IQ testing, the appointment lasts about 2 hours with opportunities for breaks. Parents typically remain in the waiting room adjacent to our office throughout the duration of each testing appointment. Clients should aim to get a good night’s sleep and a balanced meal before each session. At Coast Psychology, we move at your pace to ensure each testing session feels comfortable.

Many private schools and societies such as Mensa will use one’s IQ score as the sole determinant of giftedness. People who score above their cut-off on formal intelligence are deemed gifted, and those whose scores fall below are not. However, research suggests that giftedness is a multidimensional construct - people can be gifted in ways that aren’t apparent through intelligence testing. At Coast Psychology, we provide formal intelligence (IQ) testing as well as multidimensional evaluations for giftedness, spanning areas such as creativity, leadership, motivation, and artistic talent.
